"Fake News"

Fake news websites (also referred to as hoax news[1][2]) deliberately publish hoaxespropaganda, and disinformation purporting to be real news — often using social media to drive web traffic and amplify their effect. (wikipedia.com)

With the new President apparently planning to charge at the main stream media head-on, "fake" news" has become the new catchphrase within the political arena. But what is fake news?

The above referenced definition from Wikipedia is among the best definitions that I've been able to locate. Basically, it's the act of intentionally disseminating false or misleading stories in order to drive traffic to a specific media source.
The phrase has become more than a mere term that was previously tossed around by those in the main stream media.
However, our current President has made the decision to use the term as a rally point for his base; and they have latched on in totality. The terms "fake news", and alternate facts have become fodder for the social media playground.

As I've begun to study this phenomenon of sharing and liking alleged news stories on social media, specifically Facebook, I wonder what about these stories makes a person read it and take it a face value? Is it the need to be the first to "report" such a story to one's family and friends. They then would give the credit to Uncle Jimmy for finding the story. Of course, no one has bothered to check the story's truthfulness. (Uncle Jimmy would never lie to us)
Having listened to various callers to programs like Rush Limbaugh, Rachel Maddow, and the rest of the talking heads on the small screen (and AM radio), I fully believe that a large portion of America views life through the lens of either Red or Blue glasses. Therefore, they listen to programs that do nothing other than reinforce the beliefs that they already hold true.

I say introduce more channels like CSPAN. Put a camera in the Senate, House, etc. and simply turn it on. I will watch and make my own mind up about what I've seen and heard. And to go a step further, I would encourage those of you and the far right and far left to research and opposing view from the one you currently hold and simply LISTEN.....
