Refugees......From Where Ever

Refugees.....

The newest buzzword in and around the capitol this weekend.
I have listened to the protests and marches for the "rights" of refugees coming to America. The 14th Amendment is oft-cited by those who seemingly have no regard for America's borders as well as those who are attempting to get into my beloved country. I fully believe that this is one of the reasons that President Trump signed an Executive Order over the weekend that put a temporary halt to all immigration into the United States from those countries (mostly of Muslim origin) that pose a potential threat to America.

As a Navy Veteran, and one who has defended the Constitution of this great country, I find his apparent lack of information-gathering disturbing. However, I do understand what he is trying to accomplish.
Ask yourself, how many of the terrorist attacks within our borders within the past 2-3 years were committed by U.S. citizens who were either born in one of the countries in question, or at some point traveled to one of the countries in question?

I am not a Trump supporter, nor did I vote for him. And I believe he is doing what he feels is BEST for America, however poorly executed the strategy may be. I would be completely fine with stopping all immigration into this country until EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THE HOMELESS VETERANS IN THIS COUNTRY HAD A PLACE TO LIVE.
So everyone just take a breath and let the man do his job. If you don't like it, then I would highly suggest that the 45% of you that did not vote in this past election get off your can and participate in four years. And understand that YOU are the reason that he got elected to begin with!

The Politicization of Damn Near Everything

Donald J. Trump will be sworn in as the 45th President of The United States on Friday around 12:00 EDT.

That statement should be fairly innocuous and represent nothing but a fact that the Blue Marble is still turning and that we voted democratically and that we are moving onward in our respective lives.

However, to many in this country, the fact that Trump is actually going to run the country is so far beyond belief that their very lives have been turned upside down. The things that they have long held true are beginning to crumble from under their feet.
Most of the people that I speak of are Liberal leeches who choose to suckle of Uncle Sam's teet until they are forced off. Otherwise, why would a guy taking office affect them so?
I understand that most people don't like Trump as a person; I don't care for him myself, nor did I vote for him. But honestly, the stuff that is going on right now is far beyond the pale of comparison that we've ever seen in America. We are truly a nation divided.

America, for a good part of it's brief history was divided by race. We still are. President Obama did not help that issue nearly as much as he could have as an African-American man. The argument could certainly be made that he made race relations in America worse.
But what I see and hear as I follow and listen to politics is the divide that might be more difficult to break than even race; the divide of red or blue; Democrat or Republican; Liberal or Conservative.
TRUMP IS NOT EVEN IN OFFICE YET!!

I've often thought that partisanism would be the downfall of this great country, and the more I'm on social media, the more I become convinced of that theory. Why is it this way?
For BOTH sides of the aisle, you do know that you don't have all the answers, right?

The backlash toward performers who want to share in the moment of an inauguration is incredible. The list of performers scheduled to appear is a varitable "C" list of Hollywood's most average. This all because the talent that actually wants to perform, if for no other reason than for the history of it, cannot do so because it would be career suicide.
This is a truly sad state of affairs for my country.

I would ask and pray that those who dislike (see: hate) Trump should give the guy a chance. Maybe he can make America great again, maybe he can't. I'm willing to withhold judgment until such time comes that he fails.

The Execution of My Facebook Account

In watching the Golden Globe Awards last night, I was somewhat amazed at the negativity (above and beyond the typical jabs aimed at our new President-elect) that was involved at Donald Trump.

It got me to thinking......how often do I speak positivity into another person's life?

The answer that I came up with was; not nearly enough. There is so much negativity in the world that it begins to drag me down personally. I do try to keep up with politics as much as possible, but (again) there's so much negativity involved that I can only take so much before I change the station to something more uplifting.
This is the main reason that I recently deactivated my Facebook account. This was my 2nd go around with the social media giant and I vowed to manage it more actively than I did the first time; no more blindly accepting every Friend request that comes down the street, unfollowing those with whom I am "friends" because of their constant bitching and complaining, and airing of their dirty laundry. But in the end, it proved to be too much for me to manage effectively. I found that I was giving too much time to the management of Facebook and the result was that I took from other areas of my life which are FAR more important.

Fake news was a buzz word in 2016 and Facebook has pledged to critique the news that they allow to be posted on the site. But maybe, just maybe, they should steer the conversation to a more positive place. Maybe that's too much of an infringement on one's 1st Amendment rights for those on the far Right......

I for one will stick to Twitter, which I find much more entertaining anyway.
